How to Choose a Chalk Line
Is it easy to hold?
It's hard to overstate the importance of an easy-to-hold chalk line that's molded to the contours of your hand. Kapro's new range of 4 chalk lines are all ergonomically designed, with Easy-Grip™ moldings on its two plumb-bob models (211, 215) and unique "fishing rod" handles on its "Sure Grip" models (213, 214).

Is the casing durable?
Chalk lines notoriously fall apart, and once they do you can forget putting them back together. The importance of durable casing that will last over time is crucial. All Kapro chalk lines are manufactured from tough ABS plastic casing and the highest quality components. The 214 and 215 models incorporate TPR (Thermal Plastic Rubber) molding, and the 215 Stainless Steel Chalk Line offers extra strength with its additional aluminum casing.

Is the rewind smooth? How fast is it?
Not all chalk lines are easy to rewind. Once the line has been covered in chalk and been through some use, it can start to catch when you rewind it. A smooth rewind is essential.
A fast rewind can save time and effort. For trades people who use this tool on a regular basis, Kapro's high-end 214 and 215 chalk lines offer the fastest rewind mechanism on the market to date – with a 6:1 ratio.

Is there a no-spill chalk refill?
Refilling a chalk line can be messy and wasteful, while releasing chalk into the air that you don't want to inhale. Kapro has included a rubber diaphragm on all its models that eliminates the problem of spilt chalk while you're refilling. It doesn't even need a separate cap.

Are all end hooks the same?
You'll want to be able to hook the end of your line onto something stable so it can be pulled taut without an extra pair of hands. Most chalk lines don't offer much in the way of versatility when it comes to end hooks. Kapro chalk lines feature an all-in-one end hook that will hold onto nails, hooks, ledges and sills. It even tacks into drywall.

Is there an advantage to an integrated line level?
When you're marking a line on a horizontal surface, making sure it's level is a must. The easiest method is to attach a lightweight line level to the line. Kapro's high-end chalk lines both include a line level that clicks into the chalk box itself. With the 215 Stainless Steel model, you simply unclick the line level and place it on the line. The 214 Sure Grip model is even more ingenious, featuring a line level that is already attached to the line – just unclick and it pulls out when you extend the string.
